Your New Spider

1. Understanding Jumping Spiders:

  • Jumping spiders are a diverse group of spiders known for their excellent vision, agility, and jumping ability.

  • They come in various species, but two popular ones kept as pets are the Bold Jumping Spider (Phidippus audax) and the Regal Jumping Spider (Phidippus regius).

  • Both males and females can be kept as pets, but there are some differences between them which we'll discuss.

When your new spider has arrived at your home, they will be in a shipping box. Very carefully open the box and take out the small cup in which your spider has been staying for it’s ride to your home. check to make sure your spider has movement and that you have your encloser ready for living. If your spider, for some unfortunate reason is dead upon arrival please see the shipping and arrival instructions under the SHIPPING tap of the home page.

There are several ways to welcome your spider into its new home: You can open the cup lid and place the cup inside the encloser and allow your jumping spider to emerge from its cup on its own, or you can use a small paint brush to gently move the spider from the cup into its encloser. If you are familiar with jumping spiders you may just go ahead and guide the spider onto your finger our hand, then place it in the encloser.

Do whatever is comfortable for you and the spider. If they are acting shy, you may need to give them time to adjust. Don’t force anything, and don’t pull for push your spider out. They are very delicate creators and should be handled as such. If you are nervous about getting the spider out or handling the spider, then just place the cup in the encloser to ensure the spiders safety into its new home.
